U.S. housing starts surge 22.6%

Construction of new U.S. homes surged 22.6% last month as homebuilders bounced back from a lull induced by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that new homes were started at an annual pace of nearly 1.5 million in July, highest since February and well above what economists were expecting.

Housing starts have now risen three straight months after plunging in March and April as the virus outbreak paralyzed the American economy.

Last month’s pace of construction was 23.4% above July 2019’s.

Home sales surge to record pace in June

The California housing market rebounded in June with its largest month-to-month sales increase in nearly 40 years.

Reversing a two-month consecutive drop below 300,000 units caused by the coronavirus pandemic, June’s sales total climbed 42.4 percent from 238,740 in May and was down 12.8 percent from a year ago, when 389,730 homes were sold on an annualized basis.

The month-to-month increase was the largest since C.A.R. began reporting monthly sales in January 1979.

LeBron James reportedly scores Lee Phillip Bell’s L.A. compound according to The Real Deal.

The selling price was $39,000,000.
